AMY WINEHOUSE DECEASED: A VOICE THAT REALLY GRABS YOU ..

Last night I received a text message from my friend, containing the news that Amy Winehouse is deceased. I could not believe what I was reading, I was in shock. In shock because we lost a unique soulful voice..

"A voice that really grabs you and takes you into her story, her joy, her pain, her experience from life by revealing her soul.."

She was a great inspiration for many people and also for the fashion industry. Fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld really loved her fifties style, and her retro (beehive) hairdo. In his pre-fall 2008 fashion show, his models had the same hairdo as Amy.

"She is a beautiful, gifted artist and I very much like her hairdo. I took it as an inspiration because, in fact, it was also Brigitte Bardot 's hairdo in the late '50 and '60. And now Amy has made it her own style. So when I saw her, I knew it was the right moment. Amy Winehouse is the new Brigitte Bordot.."
- Said by Karl Lagerfeld

"Find the differences" (Amy Winehouse and Brigitte Bordot)

The fashion label Fred Perry was also inspired by Amy's style, so they did a colloboration with her. I really love the fashion illustration below, from the collection.

It's nice to know that Amy Winehouse will always life trough her music
and the people she inpsired because
" An icon never dies.."

YOHJI YAMAMOTO EXHIBITION

Last saturday I was back in London and I decided to go to Victoria and Albert Museum, the world's greatest museum of art and Design. At the museum where several exhibits and one of them was Yohji Yamamoto. I had never been to an exhibition of this ground breaking designer, so I was very curious.

Yamamoto became internationally renowned in the early eighties for challenging traditional notions of fashion by designing garments that seemed oversized and unfinished, that played with ideas of gender or with fabrics not normally used in fashion. Yamamoto also had an unusual pattern cutting, knowledge of fashion history and sense of humour.

The exhibition shows over 60 creations (women's and menswear) and a multi-media timeline that reveals Yamamoto's wider creative output.

I really liked the exhibition because you had te change to see the garments up close, they really took enough space between te garments so you could walk around it. I really zoomed in to the details of his garments and I was impressed by his use of textile and silhouettes.

I recommed this exhibition to anyone who has not seen it yet. The exhibition will last untill 10th of July, so there is still time to see the work of Yohji Yamamoto..

“An artist is somebody who creates things
..that you don’t need to have”

UNRAVEL knitwear in fashion

PART 1

INTRO:
The exhibition begins with an introduction of three designers who have a special bond with knit. They show there work by making three installations. Hilde Frunt & SIGI, mother and son are both passionate about knitting. They have an Knitting studio "Studio Hilde Frunt" that develops many handmade pieces for Belgian designers, and both also have a clothing line that consist entirely of knitwear.

Hilde Frunt and SIGI developed for this exibition an (installation)living room setting, wich emphasizes the intimate family atmosphere in wich they create garments. The installation consists of three silhouettes and several covers for interior items in their own style.

Click to see the video of the rotating installation:

I would like to know what you think of my video, so feel free to leave a comment. For more information and pictures of this exhibition, see my next post..

FASHION POST

A DAY IN ANTWERP..
Antwerp is my favourite city and is also known as Europe's leading trendsetters in fashion. They became trendsetters because of the "Antwerp six" a group of influential avant garde fashion designers who gratuated from Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts between 1980-1981. The six designers are; Walter van Beirendonck, Ann Demeulenmeester, Dries van Noten, Dirk Sanae, Dirk Bikkembergs and Marina Yee. The breakthrough occured in 1988 as the group rented a truck and set out for the Londen fashion fair with their collection.

The past few days I am really excited
because tomorrow
I’m going to:

The Fashion Museum MOMU is sheltered in the ModeNatie in the Nationalestraat. ModeNatie accommodates several partners: the Fashion Museum, the Flanders Fashion Institute and the Fashion Department of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Artesis Hogeschool Antwerpen. UNRAVEL is an exhibition about a material that is very familiar to all of us. I'm looking forward seeing top pieces by national and international designers and labels.

I will keep you posted..

ART MEETS FASHION

Art is much broader than the most people think. Art is about bringing expression and emotion to the society we live in and find some recognition. Fashion is a form of art that is diverse and the range is unkown. Fashion is more than only clothes or shoes, it's about telling a story, a story that will bring us together.

From now on I will regularly post an item about fashion, titled "FASHION POST". I will share my passion for fashion by keeping you posted about what's happening in the fashion world

FASHION POST:

ABSTRACT

 Abstract by United Nude 2011

I was surfing on the internet when I came across these beautiful sandals from United Nude..

United Nude is an established brand from the Netherlands. They are known for their clear conceptelegance and innovation. These shoes are really a work of art and you can see that they paid a lot of attention to the concept(abstract)and details.

I love the sharp angles and the slanted stacked wood. There is also a intersection between design and fashion.
